And the GP30 has also proven an extraordinarily successful locomotive, serving throughout the U\. S\. for more than half\-a\-century\! Introduced in 1961 and constructed through 1963, nearly 1,000 of the 2,250\-horsepower, four\-axle \(B\-B\) GP30s were built by the Electro\-Motive Division of General Motors\. With a memorable one\-of\-a\-kind external styling created by General Motors’ legendary Automotive Styling Center, the GP30 was unmistakable in appearance and the versatile locomotive went to work for a virtual “who’s who” of America’s railroads, including the Pennsylvania, New York Central, Baltimore & Ohio, Southern Railway, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific\.
